Skin analysis Korea: what a 3D scan sees that your photo cannot
The 3D Meta-Vu scan takes about 10 minutes and is part of the consultation at no extra cost. A photo earns a rough opinion on WhatsApp, and the plan and final price follow the scan, with no obligation to go ahead.

Most people planning skin analysis Korea visits start the same way: a selfie on WhatsApp and the question "how much?". It is a fair question, and the clinic answers it with the list price of each treatment you ask about. What a photo cannot do is show what sits under the surface, and that is where most plans change. This guide explains what the 3D Meta-Vu skin analysis sees, why it comes before the final figure, and how to fit it into a short trip.
What a photo can show, and what it cannot
A phone photo is good at what your mirror is good at: where a patch sits, roughly how large it is, whether a line is there at rest. That is enough for a useful first message. It is not enough to tell how deep a brown patch sits, or whether a pink cheek is general irritation or a network of small vessels. Pigment depth and vessels are the two things that decide which laser is used.
Light is the other problem. A window, a bathroom bulb and the phone's own processing all shift colour, and many cameras smooth texture before you ever see the picture. The same face can look like two different skin types in two photos taken an hour apart.
| Question | From a photo | After the 3D scan |
|---|---|---|
| Which treatments might suit me | A shortlist | Confirmed or changed |
| Is this brown patch melasma, a sun spot or an acne mark | A guess | Read from the pigment and melanin layers |
| Is the redness vessels or irritation | A guess | Read from the redness layer |
| How many sessions I need | Not possible | Planned with the doctor |
| What it costs | List price per treatment | Final figure, before treatment starts |
So the clinic gives what a photo honestly supports: a rough opinion and the list price of each treatment you name. It does not confirm a plan or a final price from a picture, and it does not run video consultations. The precise answer comes from the scan and a face-to-face consultation in Seoul, which is what a skin analysis Korea visit is really for.
What the 3D Meta-Vu scan measures
Meta-Vu photographs the face in 3D with light placed around its contours, so the sides of the face read as clearly as the front. The image is then separated into layers, and each one shows a single thing:
- Texture and pores
- Wrinkles, plus the lines the software predicts will deepen
- Pigment and melanin, which separate surface spots from deeper patches
- Redness, which shows vessels that a mirror blends into general pinkness
- Tone and dark circles
- Sebum and acne bacteria
The capture takes about 10 minutes, you feel nothing, and there is no downtime. You sit in front of the device with a clean face. Makeup comes off before the photos, so arriving without it saves a step.

Because the lighting rig is the same every time, the scan also works as a baseline. A later scan on the same setup can be laid beside it, which says far more than two phone photos taken in different rooms. The pigmentation and skin tone menu shows the devices those readings are matched to.
How the scan changes the plan, and the price
The scan rarely invents a new problem. What it changes is the tool and the order. Two cases come up most often with visitors.
Brown patches that look the same
Melasma, sun spots and marks left after acne can look alike in a photo and behave very differently. Deeper pigment tends to rebound when it is treated aggressively, so the clinic spaces sessions to what the skin tolerates. The THE Beautiful Pigmentation Care Program is built on that idea: scan first, then select. The pico toning price guide shows how each line is priced once the type is known.
Pink cheeks that turn out to be vessels
Redness that a camera flattens into one tone can turn out to be fine vessels. That points to a vascular laser such as Vbeam Perfecta rather than a toning laser, and the setting chosen decides how long any redness lasts afterwards. The doctor tells you which setting and why before you agree to anything. The Vbeam laser guide sets out those settings and their downtime.
What happens on the day, step by step
- Bring your passport. The consultation starts after an identity check, and a companion who also wants a consultation needs their own.
- Arrive with a clean face. Makeup comes off before the scan.
- The scan. About 10 minutes in front of the Meta-Vu device.
- The consultation. The scan is read beside the photos you sent from home, with an interpreter at your side. Dr. Jang Dong-hoon decides the plan and performs the treatment himself.
- The quote. The final price is given after the analysis and the consultation, before anything starts. You can stop there with no obligation.
- Treatment, if you go ahead. Many treatments can follow on the same day.
Allow 60 to 90 minutes for a first visit, which covers the analysis, the consultation and numbing cream. Lifting and body treatments need 2 to 2.5 hours in total. Same-day bookings are possible when a slot is free, but a first visit has to start 60 to 90 minutes before closing.
There is no deposit, and changing or cancelling by message costs nothing. A consultation that ends without treatment carries a small consultation fee, which is waived when you are treated the same day. The scan itself is included either way.
| Your situation | When to book the consultation | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Three or four nights in Seoul | Day 1 or 2 | Leaves room for any downtime before the flight |
| Laser on the plan | Not on the day you fly | The clinic does not advise flying the same day after laser |
| Lifting on the plan | A slot with 2 to 2.5 hours free | Scan, consultation and treatment run back to back |
| Saturday visit | Morning | Saturday closes at 16:30 and Sunday is closed |
Already had a skin analysis somewhere else?
Bring it. Results from another clinic are read as reference, and they help most when they show how your skin has changed over time. The clinic still runs its own 3D scan on the day, at no extra cost, because the plan has to rest on readings from the setup the doctor works with.
The same goes for earlier treatments. Recent filler, threads, laser and medicines such as isotretinoin change what can be done and when, so put them in your first message rather than mentioning them on the treatment bed. Anyone comparing a skin analysis Korea clinics offer should ask each one the same thing: is the final price set before or after the scan? The factory clinic guide lists five more questions worth asking.
What to send before you fly
- Daylight photos: front and both sides, no makeup, no filter
- The treatments you are curious about, or "decide after consultation"
- Your arrival and departure dates, including the flight time home
- Treatments from the last year, and any medicines you take
- Allergies, and whether a companion is coming
With that, the reply can include the list price of each treatment you named, so you arrive with a budget range rather than a blank. The clinic does not send the whole price list, but the Korean facial treatment prices guide sets common treatments side by side, and the online consultation guide covers the first message in more detail.

When your dates are set, open the booking selector with 3D Meta-Vu ticked and add anything else you are curious about. The clinic confirms a time after checking the schedule, and the scan comes first on the day.
The short version
- A photo supports a rough opinion and list prices; it cannot show how deep pigment sits or whether redness is vessels.
- The Meta-Vu capture lasts about 10 minutes, has no downtime and is included in the consultation.
- The final quote is given after the scan and consultation, before treatment, and you can stop there.
- Bring your passport, arrive without makeup and allow 60 to 90 minutes for a first visit.
Questions patients ask
Can I get a quote from a photo?
You get a rough opinion and the list price of each treatment you ask about. The final quote follows the 3D scan and a face-to-face consultation, because a photo cannot show pigment depth or vessels.
Does the 3D skin analysis cost extra?
No. It is part of the consultation. A consultation that ends without treatment carries a small fee, which is waived if you are treated the same day.
How long does the scan take?
About 10 minutes, with nothing to feel and no downtime. Allow 60 to 90 minutes for the whole first visit.
Do I have to choose a treatment before I come?
No. You can write "decide after consultation" on the booking form and decide with the doctor after the scan.
Is there a video consultation?
No. The clinic answers on WhatsApp and gives the precise plan in person, after the scan.
Can I use a skin analysis from another clinic?
It is read as reference. The clinic runs its own scan on the day at no extra cost.
Results and recovery vary between individuals, and every treatment can have side effects. Prices are from the clinic's price list and are confirmed at consultation. This article is general information, not a diagnosis.
