Looking up Sylfirm melasma Korea because the patches on your cheeks came back after the last round of laser toning?
Give this eight minutes before you choose a device for your Seoul trip.
By the end you will know what Sylfirm does that a pigment laser does not, who it suits and who should wait, how sessions are spaced, what recovery looks like, and what one session costs on our list.
Hello, I'm Dr. Jang Dong-hoon, Founder & Medical Director of THE Beautiful Clinic in Seoul. Every consultation here starts with a 3D Meta-Vu scan of about ten minutes, and the doctor who examines you plans and treats you, and nobody sells you a package to be done by someone you never met.
I wrote this because melasma is usually handled as a pigment problem alone. Studies of melasma skin also find more blood vessels and a damaged basement membrane under the patch, and that half is the one Sylfirm is aimed at.
Sylfirm is selective RF microneedling: fine needles deliver radiofrequency energy at a set depth, aimed at the abnormal vessels under melasma while the heat on the surface is kept low. It is mainly considered when melasma comes with redness, or keeps returning after treatment aimed only at melanin. It does not replace sunscreen or a pigment laser, and results vary from person to person.
What Sylfirm is, in plain words
Sylfirm is a selective RF microneedling device. Needles thinner than a hair carry radiofrequency energy below the surface, and the energy is kept to the target depth rather than spread through the whole dermis. The thermal load on the outer layer, the epidermis, is kept deliberately low.
The target is what makes it different. A 2016 review of melasma pathology in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences found that the number, size and density of blood vessels are greater in melasma skin than in the skin around it. The same review describes a disrupted basement membrane, the thin layer between the epidermis and the dermis, which lets pigment drop into the dermis.
Its authors add that laser toning cannot remove that underlying dermal change, which is one reason pigment tends to return. Treatment aimed only at melanin leaves the abnormal vessels alone. Sylfirm is aimed at those vessels, and that is the reason to consider it, not as a stronger pigment laser.
You will also see the name Sylfirm X. It is the newer model name that many people search for, and a small 2026 pilot study from Korea used it in a pulsed-wave setting. Our website and price list name the device as Sylfirm, so if the model or the settings matter to you, ask on WhatsApp which one your plan uses.
How Sylfirm differs from a pigment laser
Each device on our pigment list reads something different in the skin. The table puts Sylfirm beside the three lasers it is most often weighed against here.
| Device | What it aims at | Where it usually fits |
|---|---|---|
| Sylfirm | Abnormal vessels and the dermis under melasma | Melasma with redness, or melasma that keeps coming back |
| PicoWay | Pigment, broken up by a very short pulse | Brown pigment and melasma-type tone |
| Excel V+ | Vessels and surface pigment, two wavelengths | Redness and sun spots on the same face |
| Vbeam Perfecta | Haemoglobin in dilated vessels | Redness that is vascular rather than pigmented |
A pigment laser such as PicoWay works on the colour you can see, and the pico toning price guide covers how it is planned. Excel V+ and Vbeam Perfecta work on redness, and the Excel V laser guide compares them. Sylfirm sits between the two: it is not a laser, and it works on the layer under the patch.

Sessions, spacing and combining with lasers
Sylfirm is maintained in courses, not done once. The 2026 systematic review of RF microneedling for melasma found that most studies spaced sessions two weeks apart, typically five in total, while others used three or four weeks. Its authors offer three to five monthly sessions as a starting framework and still call for larger, longer trials.
The Korean pilot study with Sylfirm X treated five patients about eight weeks apart, just under four sessions on average. That is a small study, and the interval for your own plan is set at consultation. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that melasma treatment usually takes 3 to 12 months to show results.
Combining is common. The same review rated RF microneedling plus a low-energy pigment laser as reducing pigment more than the laser alone, with fewer cases of rebound pigmentation. Our pigment programme scans first, then chooses between picosecond, nanosecond, vascular and long-pulse platforms, often in sequence rather than all at once.
- One short trip: usually one Sylfirm session, sometimes with a laser if the scan shows surface pigment as well.
- Two or more trips: a course, each session charged at the single-session rate, with the gap set around your flights.
- Between trips: daily broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, which the AAD calls central to keeping melasma from returning.
Whether Sylfirm and a laser go on the same day or on separate visits depends on your scan, and you will know before anything starts.
Recovery and flying home
On our treatment page the downtime is listed as same-day redness, and most people are presentable the same evening. The sensation is moderate, and numbing cream is commonly used in the studies.
The review recorded redness and swelling that settled within hours and, at most, within about seven days. In the small Sylfirm X study, the redness was gone within a day for all five patients. Results and reactions vary, so do not book a photo shoot or an important event straight after a session.
If you can, book Sylfirm early in your trip, so any redness settles while you are still in Seoul. Tell us your flight time when you book. After you fly home, the clinic keeps answering on WhatsApp within 24 business hours.
Who it suits, and who should ask first
A Sylfirm melasma Korea plan makes most sense for a few kinds of skin. Our site lists redness and vascular skin, melasma and pigment deposits, enlarged pores and rough texture as what it is used for.
- Melasma with flushing or visible redness on the same cheeks.
- Melasma that returned after toning aimed only at pigment.
- Redness on its own, where you also want texture and pores addressed.
State the limit first: if your marks are mainly sun spots with little redness, a pigment laser such as PicoWay is usually the closer fit. If the redness comes from dilated vessels and there is little melasma, Vbeam Perfecta may suit better.
Tell us your medical history in consultation. That includes recent fillers, isotretinoin, or medication that affects healing, and any laser or peel in the last few weeks. If your skin is tan or brown, mention your Fitzpatrick type: most study participants were types III and IV, so data on darker skin are limited.
If you have had darker marks after a laser before, our guide to dark spots after laser explains why that happens and what we check first.
What Sylfirm costs here
One Sylfirm session is 249,000 KRW, and the tip is 33,000 KRW on its own line. A course is charged at the single-session rate, so the total depends on how many sessions your plan needs.
Prices are from the list of 20 August 2026 and exclude 10% VAT. The final figure is confirmed at consultation, after the 3D Meta-Vu scan and before anything is started.
What moves the total, from session count to area to a second device, is laid out in what sets the Sylfirm price in Korea. The quote is given after the scan, before treatment, with no obligation to go ahead.

To book from abroad, send your dates on WhatsApp first or open the booking page with Sylfirm ticked. Clinic staff interpret at no charge, arranged for your appointment time, so message before you come and a Sylfirm melasma Korea visit can be planned around you.

Does Sylfirm work for melasma?
It works on the vessel and dermal side of melasma rather than on pigment alone, and studies of RF microneedling report improvement over several sessions. Results vary, melasma can return, and daily sunscreen still matters.
Is Sylfirm the same as Sylfirm X?
Sylfirm X is the newer model name many people search for. The clinic lists its device as Sylfirm, so ask on WhatsApp which model and settings your plan uses.
Does Sylfirm hurt, and how long is the redness?
The sensation is moderate, and numbing cream is commonly used. Redness usually settles the same day, and studies record swelling and redness lasting up to about seven days at most.
How many Sylfirm sessions are needed?
No single number fits everyone. Studies used several sessions spaced two to eight weeks apart, and your interval is set at consultation from the scan.
Can Sylfirm be combined with pico toning?
It can be, depending on your skin. Whether Sylfirm and a pigment laser go on the same day or on separate visits depends on your scan.
How do I book Sylfirm from abroad?
