Korean filler vs European filler: choosing again after a filler went wrong
The country label says little about results; gel type and area decide more. Bruising after contour filler can last 2 to 5 days, so the bruise is what sets your flight date.

In the Korean filler vs European filler comparison, the country label decides very little: both are usually hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, and what separates one product from another is how firm the gel is, how it is cross-linked, and which area of the face it suits. If you are searching this because a nose or lip filler went wrong before, I can guess the question underneath: “Which one do I pick this time so it doesn't happen again?” My answer starts with the filler already in your face, and only then with the next brand.
At THE Beautiful Clinic in Seoul, I consult, plan and treat myself, and every consultation begins with a 3D skin scan. If you have been disappointed before, that means the person who reads your filler history is the same person who later holds the needle.
If you still have a record from the earlier treatment, such as the product sticker, the brand name or the injection date, send a photo of it on WhatsApp with the one question that worries you most, for example “can my old filler still be dissolved?”. The product name on that record is far more useful than memory, because it shows whether the material was HA or something else.
What is the real difference between Korean and European filler?
Almost every facial filler discussed on forums, Korean or European, is made of hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the skin that holds water. In its natural form HA breaks down quickly, so manufacturers cross-link it into a gel. How tightly it is linked and how large the gel particles are decides whether a product feels soft and spreads easily, or feels firm and holds a shape.
So the more useful question is: is this gel firm enough for a nose bridge, or soft enough for lips? Korean and European manufacturers both make soft and firm versions, so two products from the same country can differ more than two products from different countries. Threads raise the same question, and Korean vs European thread lift answers it the same way: material and design before country.
On Korean filler vs European filler, what does differ is the approval route and the length of the track record. In Korea, fillers are regulated as medical devices by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). Large imported brands have generally been sold in many countries for longer and have more English-language research published. That is about how much data exists, not proof that one group is safer than the other.
We carry both: Korean filler, and imported filler such as Juvederm, Restylane and Belotero, the brands people usually mean by “European filler”. If you are weighing lips specifically, I cover that separately in Korean lip filler vs Juvederm and follow-up at home.
The options we have, and who they usually suit
The way I plan Contour Filler starts with the proportions of the face: where volume has actually been lost, on the forehead, nasolabial folds, tear troughs or chin, and where the face is asymmetric. The product is chosen after that. This table sums up the three groups on our menu.
| Option | What sets it apart | Usually considered when |
|---|---|---|
| Korean HA filler | HA gel in soft and firm versions; can usually be dissolved | You want correction with HA and the brand name on your record matters less to you |
| Imported HA filler (Juvederm, Restylane, Belotero) | HA gel with each maker's own cross-linking; can usually be dissolved; the brands are often better known to doctors outside Korea | You want a doctor at home to recognize the product on your record straight away |
| Radiesse (CaHA) | Calcium hydroxylapatite particles in a gel that stimulates collagen; not dissolved by the enzyme used for HA | An area needs structure; usually not used in the lips |
Two things in that table matter most for you. First, if a filler has gone wrong for you before, the “can be dissolved” column matters more than the country column. Second, for exactly that reason, in my view Radiesse is seldom the right first step for a face that has had trouble with filler.
If your goal is lips and you are not sure the timing is right, the post on who suits lip filler in Korea and when to wait can help you decide.

Failed nose filler: what needs answering before you choose again?
As a member of the Korean Society of Aesthetic Surgery, I treat the history of an old filler as the first part of a new plan. The questions I think need answering first are: what was injected, when, and what happened afterwards. The answer usually falls into one of these:
- The old filler is HA and some remains. It can usually be dissolved with the enzyme hyaluronidase. Our menu includes a filler-dissolving injection. After dissolving, the tissue needs time to settle before new filler is discussed.
- The material is unknown. Here I am cautious. Adding filler on top of an unknown material can make lumps or inflammation worse.
- There were signs of a blood-flow problem, such as pale or bluish skin and severe pain during or after the injection. This is history you must mention, because it changes how that area is approached.
- The material turns out to be one the body does not absorb, such as liquid silicone. Changing filler brands does not solve this, and I would not add filler on top of it.
The nose needs extra care. Blood vessels on the bridge and tip connect with vessels around the eyes, so filler entering a blood vessel here can have serious consequences. The US FDA lists injection into a blood vessel as a rare but serious risk of fillers, including vision problems. The brand, Korean or European, does not lower that risk. What lowers it is depth, volume, and the anatomical understanding of the person injecting.
The same risks, wherever the product comes from
The most common effects after filler are swelling, redness, tenderness at the injection points and bruising. For contour filler, bruising can last 2 to 5 days. The injection itself usually feels mild because the product contains anesthetic.
Less common: small lumps, an uneven shape, or a bluish tint when HA sits too close to the surface. With HA filler, most of these can be corrected or dissolved. Rare but serious are infection and a blocked blood vessel, which need treatment straight away. The American Academy of Dermatology advises choosing a doctor trained in filler injections and asking which filler will be used.
Before you come, tell us if you recently had filler elsewhere, take isotretinoin, or take medication that affects healing. Results and recovery differ from person to person, and whether filler suits you can only be decided at an in-person exam in Seoul. I have listed the lip-specific risks in lip filler risks in Korea to rule out before booking.
For a nose or lips that have been injected before, take two daylight photos without makeup, one from the front and one from the side, and send them on WhatsApp with the month of your last injection. The side photo shows the line of the nose bridge and lumps that often don't show from the front.
How long does Korean filler last, and how many days do you need in Seoul?
Contour filler on our menu lasts about 9 to 18 months by product. Areas that move a lot, such as the lips, usually absorb filler faster than quieter areas such as the nose bridge. So for longevity, the Korean filler vs European filler choice comes down to product and area more than to country.
Bruising sets the number of days in Seoul. Since bruising after contour filler can last 2 to 5 days, leaving a few days between the injection and your flight home gives you a chance to watch it settle before you leave. The clinic's hours also count: Monday to Thursday 10:30 to 19:30, Friday until 20:30, Saturday until 16:30, and closed on Sundays and public holidays. If you land on a Saturday afternoon, your first usable day is usually Monday.
We are on the 2nd floor of the Jinryeong Building on Gangnam-daero, a two-minute walk from Exit 5 of Nonhyeon Station (Sinbundang Line). Other areas can need a different number of nights; one example is ear filler in Korea: how many nights in Seoul and after you fly home.
The US CDC advises medical travelers to carry copies of their treatment records and arrange follow-up care at home. For filler, that record means the product name, the area and the amount injected. Ask for it when the treatment is done, and keep it with your passport.
A first step from Jakarta or Surabaya
Other treatments, the doctor's profile and the clinic's contact details are on THE Beautiful Clinic's English home page. You can write on WhatsApp in English or Bahasa Indonesia, and messages are answered within 24 business hours.
If you already have a date range, send your arrival and departure dates on WhatsApp, or pick contour filler in the booking selector. With those two dates you can see straight away whether a few days are left for bruising to fade, and whether your arrival falls on a Sunday or public holiday.
Whatever you choose, Korean or European, keep the product card or sticker. If that filler ever needs dissolving or topping up, that small card is what saves the next doctor, in Seoul or at home, from guessing. And if you don't know where to start, one WhatsApp message with a photo of your nose or lips as they are now is enough to begin.
The short version
- Korean and European fillers are usually both hyaluronic acid; gel firmness and area matter more than the country.
- If an old filler went wrong, find out the material first: HA can usually be dissolved, Radiesse is not dissolved by the same enzyme.
- Contour filler on our menu lasts about 9 to 18 months by product.
- Bruising can last 2 to 5 days, so leave a few days before your flight home.
- Keep the product card or sticker for the next doctor.
Questions patients ask
Does European filler last longer than Korean filler?
Not automatically. How long filler lasts depends more on the product and the area injected. Contour filler on our menu lasts about 9 to 18 months by product, and lips usually absorb filler faster than the nose bridge.
What is Korean filler?
It usually means hyaluronic acid filler made by a Korean manufacturer. In Korea, fillers are regulated as medical devices by the MFDS. Like imported HA filler, it can usually be dissolved with the enzyme hyaluronidase.
Can a failed nose filler be fixed in one visit to Seoul?
That is decided by the material. HA filler can usually be dissolved, but tissue needs time to settle before new filler, so dissolving and re-injecting may not happen on the same visit. A material the body does not absorb, such as liquid silicone, is not solved with new filler. The decision is made after an in-person exam.
Does filler injection hurt?
It usually feels mild, because the contour filler products at our clinic contain anesthetic. Areas such as the lips usually feel more sensitive than the cheeks or chin.
What should I do if something goes wrong after I fly home to Indonesia?
Worsening pain, skin turning pale or bluish, and any change in vision after filler are signs to go to an emergency department or the nearest doctor without waiting. Bring the record of the product name and the area injected. For milder concerns such as bruising or swelling, you can send a photo to our WhatsApp.
How should I prepare before coming for filler?
Come with a clean face and no makeup if possible, and tell us if you recently had filler, take isotretinoin, or take medication that affects healing. Bring your old filler record too if you still have it.
