Skin boosters
Korean skin boosters: what they do and who they suit on a short Seoul trip
Korean skin boosters are injections that ask your skin to rebuild collagen instead of adding volume. Rejuran, one of the menu options, usually leaves small bumps for 1 to 2 days.

Korean skin boosters are small-volume injections that ask your own skin to rebuild collagen and hold water, rather than filling space the way a filler does. At THE Beautiful Clinic in Gangnam, the doctor who consults also plans and treats, there are no counsellor package sales, and the visit opens with a 3D skin scan, so the choice among the boosters starts from your skin.
This page sorts the options by what they do, says who they suit, and lays out a realistic plan for a trip of a few days. Rejuran, Juvelook, Sculptra, Radiesse, Ultracol, Exosome and SkinVive all sit on the skin booster menu, and they are not interchangeable.
If you want an answer before reading further, send a daylight photo of your bare face (front and both sides) and the dates you will be in Seoul on WhatsApp. You get back whether a booster is the right category for your skin, how many days to plan around, and what would change that plan. The team replies in English or Bahasa Indonesia within 24 business hours.
What are Korean skin boosters, and how do they work?
A skin booster is an injectable placed in or just under the dermis to improve skin quality: texture, hydration, fine lines and firmness. Unlike a filler, it is not there to add shape. Most work by prompting the skin's fibroblasts to make collagen or by holding water, and the change builds over weeks.
Fillers sit in a pocket and push the surface outward. Boosters are spread across the treated area in small amounts, so the face keeps its own proportions while the skin around the injection points slowly thickens and smooths. The clinic's treatment page describes the whole category as skin that is rebuilt rather than filled.
The skin barrier is why this has to be injected. A long-standing dermatology rule of thumb, the 500 Dalton rule, says that molecules much larger than about 500 daltons do not cross intact skin in useful amounts, and polynucleotides and collagen are far larger than that. A sheet mask or a serum, however good, works on the surface. The skin boosters and regeneration treatments page lists what the clinic offers in this group. Microneedling is the other route people ask about, and Korean skin boosters for microneedling sets out what each method actually places in the skin.
The types, sorted by what they ask your skin to do
The group matters more than the brand name on the box, because each group runs on a different timeline.
| Group | Examples on the menu | What it is asked to do |
|---|---|---|
| Polynucleotide (PN) | Rejuran | Improve skin quality and resilience in the dermis |
| Collagen stimulators (PLLA, CaHA) | Sculptra, Radiesse | Prompt new collagen gradually over weeks |
Juvelook belongs to the collagen-building side as well, and the Juvelook guide goes through how it works. If your search was really about PDRN and dry skin, this PDRN post covers that route in detail.
Evidence is uneven across the groups.

Who suits Korean skin boosters, and who needs something else?
Boosters suit skin that has lost quality rather than position: dullness, dryness, fine crepey lines, rough texture, early thinning. If the issue is a dropped cheek, a heavy jowl or a brow that has settled, a booster will not move it, and a lifting device is the better category.
- Usually a fit: skin that feels thin, dry or flat by mid-afternoon, texture that makeup sits on, and a glass-skin goal. This walkthrough of five glass-skin options lays out the field.
- Usually a different plan: sagging from position, fat that needs to come down, or a surgical-type lift. Radiofrequency, HIFU and microwave platforms work at different depths for these.
- Say so before treatment: fillers or threads in the last six months, isotretinoin, any medication that affects healing, and your Fitzpatrick skin type.
Sagging rarely comes from one layer: skin loosens, fat pads shift and the fascia gives way, and each answers to a different kind of energy. Ultherapy vs Thermage in Korea explains the depth logic if lift is your concern.
How do Korean skin boosters fit into a short Seoul trip?
Usually a booster can be done on the day of the consultation, so a trip of a few days works. Rejuran typically leaves small bumps for 1 to 2 days, collagen builders can bruise, and the effect keeps building after you fly, so you will not see the final result in Seoul.
| When | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Consultation day | 3D skin scan, plan, and often the treatment itself |
| Same evening to day 2 | Small bumps or flushing at injection points that settle within days |
| Days 3 to 7 | Back to your normal routine, with sun protection |
| Weeks 2 to 12 | Collagen builds gradually; take dated photos to compare |
If you want a booster plus a treatment with real downtime, such as Fraxel, threads or Agnes, say so when you message. Those are scheduled around your week, and Fraxel leaves three to seven days of redness and flaking.
The clinic is at 2F Jinryeong Building, 545-12 Gangnam-daero, Seocho-gu, a two-minute walk from Nonhyeon Station (Sinbundang Line, Exit 5). Hours are Monday to Thursday 10:30 to 19:30, Friday 10:30 to 20:30, Saturday 10:30 to 16:30, and closed on Sundays and public holidays. A few days' notice is usually enough, though weekends and Friday evenings fill first.
What can go wrong, and who do you call once you are home?
Common effects are small bumps, bruising, swelling, redness and tenderness at the injection points, and they usually settle within days. Less common are lumps under the skin, particularly with collagen stimulators, and infection or an allergic reaction. Serious injury is rare, and it is the reason this belongs in a licensed doctor's hands.
The U.S. FDA treats dermal fillers as medical devices, lists bruising, swelling, lumps and, rarely, more serious harm among the risks, and advises that they be injected by licensed providers. Collagen stimulators such as Sculptra and Radiesse are regulated in that device category in the US.
Once home, take dated photos on day 1, day 3 and week 2. If something looks wrong, message the clinic on WhatsApp; the team replies within 24 business hours. Fever, spreading heat, worsening pain or any change in vision means a local doctor or emergency department first. Whether a given booster suits you is settled at the in-person exam, after the scan.
Before you book flights, send a bare-face photo and a list of what you have had done in the last six months, including fillers, threads, lasers and isotretinoin. You get back whether a booster day or a lifting plan fits your skin, and how many days in Seoul that needs.
Why the scan comes before the product list
The consultation begins with a 3D skin scan, and Dr. Jang Dong-hoon consults, plans and treats himself, with no counsellor package sales in between. The person choosing the booster is the person holding the syringe, and the plan follows what the scan shows.
The menu lists nine skin booster options, and the scan narrows them. The booking page lets you tick what you are curious about and send the list on WhatsApp.
What are the risks of Korean skin boosters, and what should you send before you fly?
Four things are enough for the doctor to start from:
- A daylight photo of your bare face, front and both sides
- The dates you will be in Seoul and how many days you have available
- Anything done in the last six months: fillers, threads, lasers, isotretinoin or other medicines that affect healing
- The one question that is holding you back
You get back whether Korean skin boosters are the right category for your skin, which group fits, how many days to plan, and what, if anything, should come first. Messages are answered in English or Bahasa Indonesia within 24 business hours. If you already know what you want to ask about, tick Rejuran in the booking selector and send that list on WhatsApp.
The short version
- Boosters improve skin quality; they do not lift a cheek that has dropped.
- The groups differ by timeline: polynucleotides, collagen stimulators, microinjections and exosomes.
- Most can be done on consultation day; marks settle in days, the effect builds over weeks.
- The consultation starts with a 3D skin scan, and the doctor who plans also treats.
- Send a bare-face photo and your Seoul dates on WhatsApp before you book flights.
Questions patients ask
Do skin boosters hurt?
Expect many small injection points across the area. Discomfort varies by product and by zone, and the doctor can explain what is used to keep you comfortable before you start.
How many sessions will I need?
Some products, such as polynucleotides and collagen builders, are commonly planned as a course, while others are single sessions. The doctor sets the number after the scan, so send a photo first and you will know before you buy flights.
Can I have a booster on the same day as my consultation?
Often, yes. Boosters and injectables can usually be done straight after the consultation. Treatments with real downtime, such as Fraxel, threads or Agnes, are better scheduled around your week.
Is a skin booster the same as a filler?
No. A filler adds shape and sits in one place. A booster is spread in small amounts to improve skin quality, and most boosters work by prompting your own collagen over weeks.
Is it suitable for darker skin tones?
Tell the team your Fitzpatrick type when you message and the plan is built around it.
What should I avoid before my appointment?
Come with clean skin and no makeup if you can. Avoid sun exposure and retinoids for a few days before laser work, and mention recent fillers, isotretinoin or any medication that affects healing.
Will I need to speak Korean?
No. Consultations run in English and Bahasa Indonesia, and you can message on WhatsApp before you come so the right person is scheduled.
