Pigment & redness
Enlighten Korea for stubborn pigment: is it for you? Cost, reviews, method
Enlighten is built for pigment that resists treatment and for tattoo work. It uses 2 kinds of output, picosecond and nanosecond, so your pigment type needs reading before you choose it.

Already tried creams and regular lasers, then saw Enlighten Korea on TikTok, and now you're wondering whether this laser is really for your spots or just a name people are talking about?
Before you set aside savings and leave for Seoul, give this a few minutes.
You'll know how the method works, who it suits and who it doesn't, what decides the cost, and which review claims are wrong. Then you can decide whether one session on a short trip is worth your budget.
Hello, I'm Dr. Jang Dong-hoon, Founder & Medical Director of THE Beautiful Clinic.
I do the consultation, the planning and the treatment myself, with no counsellor selling packages. The consultation begins with a 3D skin scan, and it can take place in English or Indonesian.
My reason for writing this is simple: lasers are often chosen by name, while the type of pigment in the skin is what should decide.
Enlighten is a laser that combines picosecond and nanosecond output for treatment-resistant pigment and tattoo work. It makes sense when your pigment really is that kind, and it matters less when your main complaint is redness or wrinkles.
Take a photo of your spot in daylight, with no filter, and write down one thing you've already tried. That way your question about Enlighten starts from your own skin and history.
How is Enlighten different from a regular pico laser?
Our device list records Enlighten as picosecond and nanosecond emission combined, for treatment-resistant pigment and tattoo work. A picosecond is far shorter than a nanosecond. In general terms, very short pulses break up pigment particles more through pressure, while longer pulses rely more on heat.
So is picosecond always ahead? Not necessarily. A meta-analysis in Lasers in Medical Science (2025) found similar clearance of pigment that originates in the body between picosecond and nanosecond lasers. What differed was pain, which was lower with picosecond, and the authors considered the safety profile best supported in Asian cohorts. To me, that means you shouldn't pay for the word pico alone. Ask why a particular wavelength and pulse were chosen for your spot.
What kind of pigment makes sense for Enlighten Korea?
This table is a starting way of thinking, and it is no diagnosis. The decision comes after an exam.
| Your complaint | What to consider | Does Enlighten come up? |
|---|---|---|
| Spots that persist after other treatment | Type and depth | Yes, this is a listed target |
| A tattoo you want faded | Ink color and depth | Yes, this is also listed |
| Melasma | Sits deeper and reacts easily | Possibly, with a staged plan |
| Flushed or red cheeks | The problem is in the vessels | A vascular device is usually more relevant |
| Fine lines and wrinkles | The problem is in skin structure | No, read about other options first |
If what bothers you is actually lines on your face, wrinkle treatments are the better place to read. If the problem is dull, dry skin, check the limits of creams first, then look at what a skin booster at a clinic involves. Both are different problems from pigment.

Two people, two different plans
Say you're 27, you work in Jakarta, you have one brown patch on your cheek that hasn't changed after several rounds of toning, and your skin is tan. The first thing I'd look at is the shape and depth of the patch on the scan, then your history of marks after earlier treatment. If this really is resistant pigment and your skin doesn't easily leave marks, Enlighten is worth discussing.
Now say your patches are faint, symmetrical on both cheeks, and darken in the sun. That pattern makes me think of melasma, and here I would slow down. Melasma sits deeper than a sun spot and reacts badly to the energy that clears one. Melasma is managed rather than cured, so the plan includes maintenance from the beginning.
Method: read the pigment first, then choose the wavelength
Our pigment programme scans first, sorts the lesion by type and depth, and then selects between picosecond, nanosecond, vascular and long-pulse platforms, often in sequence. Our site lists 45 to 70 minutes for this programme, with 2 to 4 weeks between sessions through the course.
That is the reality for a short trip. If a course runs every few weeks, five days of leave usually holds one session. The more useful question is what one session can do for your pigment, and whether you can come back.
Lasers can generally be done right after the consultation. A few days ahead is usually enough to book, but weekends and Friday evenings fill fast, so contact us as soon as your dates are firm.
Reviews about pico lasers: which claims are true?
These claims often appear in reviews and forums, including when people search for Enlighten Korea.
- “One shot and the spot is gone.” Don't count on it. Pigment programmes generally run as a course, and a review of lasers for pigmented lesions notes that recurrence is common.
- “Pico is stronger than older lasers.” Partly wrong. Clearance of pigment from within the body was similar in the meta-analysis above, while the clear advantage was in pain.
- “New marks can appear after a laser.” True. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is real, and more often seen in Fitzpatrick type III and above.
- “You can look normal right away.” Often true for pigment lasers, apart from a few hours of redness. If spot work is included, some people generally get light flaking.
Risks and who should wait
Common reactions are temporary: redness for a few hours, warmth and light flaking. Less common but important are post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation. In darker skin, picosecond lasers and low-fluence toning generally carry less of this risk than heat-based options, but the risk is still there. Results and recovery differ from person to person.
As general guidance, wait or talk it through first if:
- there is an infection or inflammation in the area
- your skin is freshly sunburned, or you recently used a retinoid
- you take isotretinoin or a medicine that affects healing
- you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- you recently had filler in the same area
If blisters, growing pain or a spot that keeps darkening appear after you get home, see a dermatologist in your city, then send a photo to our WhatsApp. The US CDC also advises taking copies of your medical records from the destination facility before returning home.
Here is what to pass on: your Fitzpatrick type, if you know it, and whether marks have appeared after a laser, then ask what to stop before you come. Our site asks for the same thing, because the plan is built from there. How to book from abroad is on THE Beautiful Clinic's home page.
What decides the cost of Enlighten?
The cost at our clinic is confirmed at the consultation, because several things differ from person to person:
- how many areas and how much pigment are treated
- the number of shots and the tip type, where that applies to your plan
- whether Enlighten stands alone or forms part of a pigment programme with other devices
- the number of sessions, and how many trips to Seoul are needed
- numbing cream, which is rarely used in the pigment programme unless spot work is included
To get a picture for your case, tick what you want looked at on the treatment booking list and send it on WhatsApp with your photo. We come back with a plan, a realistic sequence and a price range, in English or Bahasa Indonesia. Payment happens at the clinic.
A short trip to Seoul: setting up one session properly
Pause retinoids and acid exfoliants for three days either side of the session, following our pigment programme guidance, and avoid the sun for a few days beforehand. Come with a clean face and no makeup if possible. The clinic is open Monday to Thursday 10:30 to 19:30, Friday until 20:30, Saturday until 16:30, and closed on Sundays and public holidays. It's a two-minute walk from Nonhyeon Station Exit 5, with no patient parking, so take the subway or a taxi.
After the session, wear SPF 50 every day. Our site says one unprotected week can undo a month of the course, and that matters even more under the sun in Jakarta or Surabaya. When you plan your flight home, ask how your treatment fits your return date.
In the end, Enlighten Korea is worth considering once your pigment has been read, and before that the name doesn't tell you much.
On WhatsApp, send one photo of your spot and your leave dates, then ask: for this type of pigment, what can be done in one visit and roughly what would it cost? One photo is enough, and you can ask before booking anything. When you come, I examine your skin and recommend the treatment that fits, which may or may not be Enlighten.
The short version
- Enlighten combines picosecond and nanosecond output for resistant pigment and tattoo work.
- A 2025 meta-analysis found similar clearance of pigment from within the body between picosecond and nanosecond lasers, with less pain on picosecond.
- Our pigment programme runs every 2 to 4 weeks through a course, so a short trip usually holds one session.
- Melasma is managed rather than cured, and its maintenance plan should be discussed from the start.
- The cost is confirmed at the consultation, and you can ask for a range on WhatsApp.
Questions patients ask
Is Enlighten safe for tan or brown skin?
No laser is free of the risk of marks on darker skin. Picosecond lasers generally carry less risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation than heat-based options. Mention your Fitzpatrick type when you contact us.
Can Enlighten be used to remove a tattoo?
Our site lists tattoo work among its uses. Ink color and depth affect the plan, so send a daylight photo of the tattoo when you ask.
Can I be treated on the same day as the consultation?
Often yes, because lasers can generally be done after the consultation. Still keep a spare day just in case, especially if you can only visit once.
Do I need to speak Korean to visit the clinic?
No. Consultations are available in English and Indonesian. Contact us on WhatsApp before you come so that someone can be scheduled to accompany you.
I just had filler. Can I still have a laser?
Tell us before you come. Recent filler, isotretinoin and medicines that affect healing need to be discussed before any laser energy is planned.
How long until the spot fades after Enlighten?
No single number applies to everyone. Pigment type, depth and sun protection after the session all play a part, and in some people spots can return.
Results and recovery vary between individuals, and every treatment can have side effects. Prices are from the clinic's price list and are confirmed at consultation. This article is general information, not a diagnosis.
