Filler vs skin booster: which one does your face actually need?

A filler puts back volume that has been lost, and a skin booster improves the skin itself, so they answer different problems. On our list of 20 August 2026, filler starts at 89,000 KRW per cc and Rejuran at 120,000 KRW.

If you are searching filler vs skin booster, you have probably seen both called "injectables for better skin" and cannot tell which one your face needs. Maybe your cheeks look a little hollow in photos. Maybe your skin looks tired and makeup sits badly. Those are two different problems, and they have two different answers.

Both come in a syringe, and some of them even share an ingredient. The difference is the job: a filler puts back volume in a place that has lost it, and a skin booster works on the skin as a whole, its density, its texture and how well it holds water. Neither one replaces the other.

By the end you will know which of the two fits what you see in the mirror, what each costs on our own price list, how many days of bumps or bruising to expect, and when we use both. Dr. Jang Dong-hoon explains the same question in a short video further down. We plan this the same way every time: 3D Meta-Vu imaging first, then the decision.

Filler vs skin booster: the one question that decides it

The question is not which treatment is better. It is what is missing: volume in one place, or quality across the whole skin? A hollow under the eye is a volume problem, and rough texture over the whole cheek is a quality problem. Your answer to that picks the product.

Dr. Jang put this question into one sentence on our YouTube channel: filler fills what has sunk, and a booster improves the skin itself. The video is in Korean and runs five minutes. The English title and description are on YouTube.

Filler: when lost volume is the problem

A contour filler is a gel placed at chosen points to restore volume or shape. You see the change the same day, which is why people use it before a wedding, a shoot or a flight home. Anaesthetic is mixed into the product, so the sensation is mild.

  • An under-eye hollow that makes you look tired even after sleep.
  • Smile lines that have deepened because the cheek above them lost volume.
  • A flat chin, sunken temples or thin lips where shape, not skin quality, is the issue.
  • Asymmetry, where one side has less volume than the other.

The cost of filler is the chance of bruising for 2–5 days, and a result that depends heavily on placement. Too much product in the wrong place is how a face starts to look bigger. We cover that worry in what is true about cheek filler and a bigger face.

Skin booster: when the skin itself is the problem

A skin booster does not add shape. It is injected in many small points into the dermis to improve the skin you already have. The change builds over weeks, which reads as natural. Signs that point to a booster:

  • Skin that looks thin, dull or tired, without a clear hollow.
  • Makeup that cakes or does not sit well on the cheeks.
  • Fine lines and rough texture spread across an area.
  • Skin that feels dry even with a good routine at home.

"Skin booster" is a family, not one product. On our list there are several, and they work differently. Here are the four people ask about most, all in our skin booster category:

Four skin boosters on our list, and what each one does
BoosterWhat it isLasts
SkinViveA hyaluronic acid gel placed in the dermis for water and elasticity, FDA-approved, lidocaine includedAround 6 months
RejuranPolynucleotide, works on thinned skin in the epidermis and dermis3–6 months after a course
JuvelookPLA with hyaluronic acid, prompts your own collagen12–18 months
ExosomeSignalling vesicles, used in a repeating courseBest in a repeating course

SkinVive shows why the line between the two can blur. It is hyaluronic acid, the same family as most fillers, but it is placed shallow and spread out, so it hydrates rather than lifts. The ingredient does not decide the job. Depth and purpose do.

Cost and downtime side by side

Filler is priced per cc and by product. Boosters are priced per cc or per vial, per session. These are the figures on our list:

Two things move a quote: for filler, how many cc your face needs and which product, and for a booster, the area and how many sessions. A booster course is charged at the single-session rate. The full filler list is in our filler price guide for Korea, and the boosters are compared in our skin booster guide.

When we combine them, and in what order

A face rarely changes for one reason. If a cheek has sunk a little and the skin over it has also thinned, filling the hollow alone leaves tired skin on top. A booster alone leaves the hollow. In that case we plan both:

  1. 3D Meta-Vu imaging. Makeup comes off and the face is photographed, so structure and skin are judged from the same images.
  2. Structure first. Filler restores the volume that is missing, in the amount your face needs and no more.
  3. Skin quality next. A booster works on the surface over it, the same day or at a later visit, depending on your dates.
  4. One plan, one quote. You see both lines on the quote before anything starts, and you can do only one of them.

Boosters and injectables can usually be done straight after the consultation, so one visit can cover the plan and the treatment. Tell us your flight date, because filler bruising can take 2–5 days to fade.

Who should ask first, and when we recommend neither

We state the limit before the benefit. Neither treatment is right for everyone, and sometimes the honest answer is neither:

  • If the skin is sagging rather than hollow, volume can make a face look heavier. Lifting is the better first step, and we say so.
  • If you have had filler elsewhere, tell us the product and the date. Old filler in the wrong place is sometimes better dissolved (110,000 KRW per session) than topped up.
  • If you take regular medication or have a medical condition, tell us your medical history in consultation before anything is booked.
  • If your flight is the next morning, a booster with 1–2 days of small bumps is easier to plan than filler that can bruise.

When you are ready, you can choose contour filler in the booking form or choose SkinVive instead. The consultation decides the final plan either way.

The short version

  1. A filler restores volume in a place that has lost it, and the change shows on the day.
  2. A skin booster improves density, texture and hydration of the skin itself, and the change builds over weeks.
  3. On the list of 20 August 2026, before 10% VAT, general facial filler is 89,000–169,000 KRW per cc and Rejuran is 120,000 KRW per cc.
  4. Filler can bruise for 2–5 days; most boosters leave small bumps for 1–2 days.
  5. When a face has both a hollow and tired skin, we plan filler for structure and a booster for skin quality.

Questions patients ask

What is the difference between filler and skin booster?

A filler is placed at chosen points to restore volume or shape, and you see it the same day. A skin booster is spread through the dermis to improve the skin's density, texture and hydration, and the change builds over weeks.

Is a skin booster a type of filler?

No. Some boosters, such as SkinVive, are hyaluronic acid like most fillers, but they are placed shallow and spread out to hydrate the skin rather than add shape. Others, such as Rejuran and Juvelook, are different materials altogether.

Which is cheaper, filler or skin booster?

At THE Beautiful Clinic, general facial filler is 89,000–169,000 KRW per cc, Rejuran is 120,000 KRW per cc and SkinVive is 270,000 KRW per cc, on the list of 20 August 2026 and before 10% VAT. What you pay depends on how many cc or sessions your face needs, confirmed at consultation.

Can I get filler and a skin booster on the same day?

Often, yes. Boosters and injectables can usually be done straight after the consultation, and the order is structure first with filler, then skin quality with a booster.

How long do filler and skin boosters last?

Filler lasts 9–18 months depending on the product. SkinVive lasts around 6 months, Rejuran 3–6 months after a course, and Juvelook 12–18 months.

Which has more downtime?

Filler can bruise for 2–5 days. Most skin boosters leave small bumps for 1–2 days, so a booster is easier to fit before a flight home.

How do I find out which one I need from abroad?

Send one daylight photo of your face and your dates in Seoul on WhatsApp. The clinic answers within 24 business hours, and the final plan is made after the 3D Meta-Vu scan at consultation.

Results and recovery vary between individuals, and every treatment can have side effects. Prices are from the clinic's price list and are confirmed at consultation. This article is general information, not a diagnosis.
