How Doublo Gold works: two layers in one session
Doublo Gold is a HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) device. Its ultrasound energy is gathered into small points beneath the skin, so the tissue at each point heats and coagulates while the skin surface is left largely untouched. At our clinic, Doublo Gold is used to coagulate the SMAS layer at a depth of 3 to 4.5 mm and to tighten the dermis above it in the same session.
Why two layers? The SMAS is a layer of connective tissue that helps hold the cheeks and jawline in place. If only the SMAS is pulled, the skin above it can still look thin, and if only the dermis is tightened, the pull falls short. So we coagulate the SMAS to pull, and tighten the dermis to add back density.
The cartridge is chosen by the thickness of your skin. This matters most around the eyes, where the skin is thinner. Firing across the full face takes about eight minutes, while your time in the chair is about 30 to 45 minutes. The device details are on the Doublo Gold treatment page.
The result does not arrive overnight. A 2023 systematic review of microfocused ultrasound explains that collagen remodelling starts around day 28 and continues for months, so improvement is judged at day 90 and later. A few more things people often forget when they budget:
- Numbing cream. For HIFU, a topical numbing cream is often applied before the session. Ask whether it is included in the figure you are given.
- Days in Seoul. Doublo Gold itself needs no recovery period. Extra cost more often comes from other devices you add on the same trip.
- Your next visit. Because the effect is recorded at 3 to 6 months, count how many times a year you plan to come back.
- Payment. The price is quoted at consultation, and payment happens at the clinic.
Say you're 28, you live in Surabaya, and you've started to see your lower cheeks drop a little in side-on photos. Your skin is fairly thick, you have four days of leave, and your budget covers one treatment. In consultation we would first look at which layer the laxity is coming from. If the source is the SMAS and the skin is still dense, a smaller number of shots along the jawline often makes more sense than the full face.

When do we not recommend Doublo Gold?
HIFU is designed for mild to moderate skin laxity. The same 2023 systematic review noted that results tend to decline with heavier laxity and with a body mass index above 30, and its authors list both as relative contraindications. So if the skin of your cheeks and neck already hangs clearly, adding shots will not close that gap.
There are a few other situations where waiting or choosing another route makes more sense:
- You have inflamed acne, an infection or an open wound in the area to be treated.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding. Many doctors postpone energy-based aesthetic treatment during this time.
- Your face is very thin with little fat. Depth needs to be chosen carefully, and sometimes Volnewmer, which works in the deep dermis to restore density, is the better fit.
- You have had filler or thread lifting in the last six months. In our lifting plans this is something you need to tell us, because the energy is planned around the filler or threads, not over them.
- You want a big change within a week. Collagen builds slowly, and the honest review point in our lifting plans is week 12.
There are other options in the same clinic. Doublo Gold reviews: which claims are true?
Online reviews of HIFU usually circle around four claims. Here is what matches the medical data and what doesn't.
- “Tight the moment you walk out.” Partly true. Your face may feel tighter from slight swelling after the session, but change from new collagen takes time. In a study of 20 Korean patients after a single HIFU session, clinician-rated improvement was significant at month 3 and held through month 6.
- “The pain is unbearable.” Not for most people. The 2023 review recorded average pain of about 3.8 out of 10, scored after pain relief. On our menu, the sensation of Doublo Gold is recorded as moderate. Areas close to bone, such as the jaw, often feel sharper.
- “More shots, more lift.” It isn't that simple. Beyond the laxity HIFU can handle, extra shots add cost without adding meaningful lift.
- “HIFU leaves your face hollow.” This worry comes up often. The Korean study above reported no fat atrophy through month 6, but in a thin face the depth still needs to be chosen carefully.

Recovery and how many days in Seoul
Doublo Gold needs no dressing and there is no set recovery period; makeup can go back on straight after the session. Temporary redness, sometimes with mild swelling, happens to almost everyone after focused ultrasound treatment. In the Korean study above, redness, swelling and bruising settled within two weeks.
Our clinic is open Monday to Thursday from 10:30 to 19:30, Friday until 20:30, and Saturday until 16:30. Sundays and public holidays are closed. Monday to Friday there is a lunch break from 13:00 to 14:00, while Saturdays run without a break. We're on the 2nd floor of the Jinryeong Building, a two-minute walk from Exit 5 of Nonhyeon Station (Sinbundang Line).
If your plan is Doublo Gold alone, the skin scan and the session can fit into one weekday; confirm this when you book. If you arrive on a Saturday, remember the clinic closes early and is shut on Sunday, so Monday is often easier. After HIFU, a dull ache or mild swelling can last one to three days, and the clinic asks you to skip sauna and hard exercise for a week and alcohol for 24 to 48 hours. A lifting session with no wound does not stop you flying the next day; if you're flying home to Jakarta or Surabaya, pack sunscreen and a hat for the first days under the tropical sun.
What are the risks of Doublo Gold, and what should you do once home?
The common effects are temporary: redness and mild swelling, sometimes bruising. In the study of 20 Korean patients, six had redness and swelling and two had bruising, all of which settled within two weeks. A retrospective study in Malaysia on combined HIFU and radiofrequency also recorded temporary redness as the most frequent effect.
Less common effects include temporary numbness or tingling, wider bruising, small burns along the jaw, and lines or welts on the neck. The 2023 review recorded these less common effects in about 2% of treated patients (14 of 573), and did not report lasting nerve injury.
Who should wait is listed above: inflamed or broken skin, pregnancy and breastfeeding, recent filler or threads, and laxity that is already heavy. Whether it suits you can only be confirmed by an in-person exam, and results and recovery differ from person to person.
Once home, watch for three things: numbness that hasn't improved after a few weeks, a blister or a hardened red line, and bruising that hasn't faded within two weeks.
